  • Nextdoor

Nextdoor is a social networking service for neighbourhoods. It was launched in the United States in October 2011 and allows users to connect with people who live in their own and nearby neighbourhoods.

The QPARA area is covered by the Queen’s Park North neighbourhood. A number of members have joined and recommended it at the December monthly meeting. Members often suggest that QPARA should operate a noticeboard for members, but Nextdoor is easy to join and maybe it fulfils that need. Give it a go by registering at nextdoor.co.uk.

  • How QPARA can help fund your local good cause

From time to time QPARA has surplus funds (from events such as Queen’s Park Day) and we like to return this to the community by giving money to local good causes. So, if you are involved with a charity or a not-for-profit organisation with close links to the Queen’s Park area, you may be able to get a QPARA grant of up to £1,000 to help your work.

Recently, we’ve helped local schools to build a school garden, pay for literacy classes and pay for some Astroturf. We’ve contributed to the cost of a recording made by a junior choir and helped fund this summer’s sparkling production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing
in the park. See our previous post for more information.

If you want to apply, get your application in by 9th February 2017 at the latest. You can get more information and an application form by emailing mikecantor18@yahoo.co.uk

  • QPARA AGM Thursday, 10th November, 7.30 for 8.00, St Anne’s and St Andrew’s, Salusbury Road,

It’s AGM time again – but don’t be put off by the title, QPARA AGMs are celebrations. An opportunity to meet your neighbours and share a drink and delicious home-made food. During the year, QPARA spends a lot of time on weighty local issues that affect us all – air pollution, planning, parking and local NHS services, to name just a few.

But this night is a time to welcome new and current members to celebrate our achievements and reflect on how much we add to our vibrant community. Please join us at St Anne’s and St Andrew’s in Salusbury Road. If you are not yet a member, you can join on the night.

Oh yes, and we do have to go through the business of electing a new Chair. After three amazing years, it is my turn to stand down and open this position up to a new face. So please do join us at 7.30pm on Thursday.

St Anne’s and St Andrew’s Church, Salusbury Road, 7.30pm refreshments, 8pm meeting begins.
