Brent Safer Neighbourhood Board Public Meeting

Do you have concerns about crime or safety? Do you have ideas about how to make Brent safer, cut crime near you or involve people in making their communities safer?

Brent’s Safer Neighbourhood Board was set up by the Mayor of London in 2014 to hold local police to account and help set police priorities. Its members are Brent residents from different parts of the community.

They are holding a meeting for people to find out what the Board does, the projects it has funded, and to give people the opportunity to ask the police commander questions and give ideas.

If you are a keen gardener or a local artist living in the QPARA area or close to the park, why not open your garden or house (or both!) to the public for Queen’s Park Open Gardens and Studios on Sunday 19th June?

With Spring approaching, there is still time to get your garden in shape or produce that masterpiece, ready for this hugely successful event that has taken place in our area every two years since 1998. Please contact aszalanczi@hotmail.co.uk by 1 March 2016 for details of how to take part.

Admittance on 19 June will be strictly ticket-only with tickets going on sale at local outlets and the Farmers Market in the weeks before the event. As well as entrance to all the gardens and studios, the ticket price includes a full colour guide to the day and a much-needed cup of tea and slice of home-made cake in the lovely tea garden, where you can rest your feet and listen to live music from local players and singers. Tickets bought in advance will cost £5 for adults and children over 12, £1 for children 5-12. Entrance for children under 5 will be free. There will be a £1 supplement for tickets bought on the day.

Any surplus funds will be used by the organisers to contribute to the greening of the Queen’s Park area. Previous events have funded planting outside Queen’s Park tube station, at the police station, Queens Studios, St Eugene’s Court and Christmas lighting.

Take a look at the 2014 brochure for more information about the event two years ago:

Exploring Forgiveness: An Exhibition of Stories and Programme of Events

    8 – 18 February 2016

During ten days in February the London Inter Faith Centre will be hosting the acclaimed exhibition of the Forgiveness Project, a thought provoking collection of arresting images and personal narratives exploring forgiveness in the face of atrocity.   Drawing together voices from South Africa, Rwanda, USA, Middle East and UK, the exhibition examines forgiveness as a very human healing process, a path out of victimhood and, ultimately, a journey of hope.  The exhibition and programme of events are open to people of all faiths and none.  Entrance to the exhibition is free.   You can see the type of stories included in the exhibition here:  http://theforgivenessproject.com/stories/

The exhibition is most suitable for young people aged 14yrs and older and groups can book specific, private viewing times where there will also be someone on hand to answer questions.  Group leaders and facilitators are welcome to contact me beforehand to discuss their group’s visit.

The full programme, including an event with Forgiveness Project Founder Marina Cantacuzino, and two speakers who have shared their story with the Project, can be seen here:  http://londoninterfaith.org.uk/study/exploring-forgiveness-an-exhibition-of-stories-and-programme-of-events-8th-18th-february-2016/
