Visit to the Wildlife Garden at Paddington Rec.

A small group from QPARA visited the Wildlife Garden at Paddington Recreation Ground (Paddington Rec.) on Monday 2nd October 2023 and were shown around by Sean Stewart.

This area was opened in 2010 on the site of an old playground.

Access is controlled. In particular, it opens for shorter hours than the rest of the Rec. and is closed when school groups are there (which is often). No dogs are allowed, except guide dogs.

There is extensive low fencing to prevent the wild areas being accessed and trodden down.

The Pond and Outdoor Classroom

The ponds were created on the site of the paddling pool that had broken its back with settlement.

Small stream feature

This appears to flow into the pond area, but is actually a closed system with a retention tank and pump.
