  • Farewell to Helen Durnford

On July 7th 2022, members of QPARA and other friends gathered at the Bandstand in Queen’s Park to say farewell to Helen Durnford. Helen has been active in local issues for nearly 40 years and has co-ordinated the Queen’s Park Day team for about 15 years. She is moving to Wiltshire to be nearer family.

  • Please help Salusbury World help refugee children

Salusbury World are a brilliant local charity. We are happy to support this appeal from them.

We have a unique opportunity to double any donations made to our Champions for Children fundraising campaign until Tuesday lunchtime (21st June).

This is HUGE for us, so we would be immensely grateful if as many people as possible – who are able in these deeply straitened times – to take part.

The fundraising is in aid of our various programmes for young refugees to support them to thrive in their new communities.

There is more detail on the campaign page, but you can guarantee that every penny will be put to good use and will make a big difference to young people in NW London.

Our mission is to support and empower refugee and migrant children, young people and families to overcome obstacles, realise their rights and potential and participate fully in society.

  • Amber Trust Concert

    Amber Trust Concert

Derek Paravicini, the first beneficiary of the Amber Trust, is blind and autistic and a world famous pianist.  The concert is a chance to see him live in Willesden Green!  At Anson School, 9th July  7 p..m.   He plays all kinds of music, plays requests from the audience, improvises on notes given to him by the audience – so entertaining and astonishing …

The Amber Trust supports musical children (from toddlers to young adults) who may be blind or partially sighted , maybe with other disabilities.  For their beneficiaries, “music is not a pastime but a lifeline”.

Other beneficiaries of the Trust will be playing, the school choir will sing and it will be an entertaining and heart-warming occasion.  Tickets are £20, £10 concessions including wine and light refreshments after the concert.

Please come and support this worthwhile charity, at the same time enjoying a concert to remember.

  • Please support the funding application for the Queen’s Park sandpit

    Queen's Park Sandpit
    Queen’s Park sandpit play area

    Update

The application has been granted £45,000 which is enough to reach the target. The work can now go forward.

An application has been submitted to Brent Council for a grant for improvements for the sandpit play area in Queen’s Park. The decision on this will be made by local residents following presentations at a “Decision Day” event.

You can support this in two ways:

    • Go to the Decision Day event at St Augustine’s High School, Oxford Road, NW6 5SN. This is on the 18th June, from 13.00 to 15.30. The event is free, but you need to book tickets at: Tickets for Kilburn & Kensal Rise Decision Day.

More information is available on the Brent Council website: You Decide.

    Notes:

    • The money for this comes from the Community Infrastructure Levy (sometimes referred to as “Section 106 “) from developers, not general Council income.
    • Go here for more information about the Brent Community Infrastructure Levy.
