• Changes to GP Access in North West London – Update

It was announced at the beginning of March that these plans have been postponed for a year.

Plans have been revealed to change GP access across North West London.

Patients wanting same day access to a GP will be referred to a central hub which will be overseen by a GP but will be staffed by care co-ordinators who will decide how to deal with their request.

Only if you have a “complex long-term condition” will you be given the option to consult with and see your doctor in the GP practice where you are registered.

Robin Sharp, Chair, Brent Patient Voice, and Deborah Unger, NWL PPG Forum Chair; who are both members of QPARA; have written a summary of and reaction to the proposals, titled: “Alarming proposals planned to restrict patients seeing their own GP“.

This can be seen, along with other information, on this website at: Changes to GP Access in North West London

  • Possible Conservation Area Changes

From now until 11th March, Brent are running a consultation on possible conservation area changes.

The two proposals of most interest to QPARA members are:

    1. Extending the Queen’s Park Conservation Area to cover most of Salisbury Road and the area south of Paddington Old Cemetery.
    2. Creating a new conservation area for Kensal Rise.

Details of these possible changes, drop-in sessions and how to respond are on Brent’s website at: https://www.brent.gov.uk/planning-and-building-control/listed-buildings-and-conservation-areas/conservation-consultation

This shows the area that is being considered to add to the Queen’s Park Conservation Area.

The downloadable documents contain a lot more information.

Note: there are older documents dated 2019 still on the Brent website, but the page above contains the latest. One major change from the previous proposals is that, instead of including part of Chamberlayne Road in the Queen’s Park Conservation Area, it is now proposed to include it in the new Kensal Rise Conservation Area.

  • Laurence’s Larder

At the QPARA meeting on 11th January, Mark Wakefield, Chair of Laurence’s Larder, gave a short talk about their work and how to help them.

  • Kensal Canalside – deadline for comments

The 12th January deadline has now passed for submissions to London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea about the Proposed Development at Kensal Canalside / Sainsbury’s.

You can find further information on this website at Kensal Canalside.

Kensal Triangle Residents Association has a website with further information, videos, analysis of the application and a petition – https://www.keepkensalgreen.com/.

The QPARA response can be seen on the Planning page.

  • Salusbury World Crowdfunder – Result

Salusbury World is a registered charity supporting refugee and migrant children, young people and families rebuild hopeful, fulfilling lives in London. They started work in Brent in 1999.

They provide immediate crisis support – through basics like food parcels and phone cards, and help with welfare benefits, immigration issues and homelessness – and long-term support so refugees and asylum-seekers develop the skills and confidence to thrive in London. Their support is personalised and integrated. They also offer an advice service, after-school and homework clubs, educational mentoring for teenagers, holiday programmes and a women’s project.

Salusbury World has reached something of a pinch point with an exponential rise in the demand for their services at a time of serious financial constraint and is in danger of closure in 2024 without your generous support.

    The Crowdfunder is now over.

You can go to https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/help-refugees-now to see the result.

Their website is at https://salusburyworld.org.uk/ . You can get information about their activities and how you can support them.
